In 2005 only 119,000 of those 1 1/2 million youth between the ages of 12 to 17 years old who needed treatment for alcohol problems got to a treatment center to receive the help that they needed. The reasons these youth should receive treatment is because youth who have past alcohol use are at an increased risk of suicide and suffering from depression. Not only are youth more at risk from their own alcohol use, but from those who drink while driving with or without children in the car. 21% of the children under 12 that die in car crashes were from alcohol related accidents.
